In our last newsletter we announced big plans: we wanted to develop no less than eight self-study modules on climate. We chose the following themes:

  • Introduction to climate change (Exploradöme, France)
  • Ecological footprint (Technopolis, Belgium)
  • Transportation (Sarga, Spain)
  • Houses (WIN, Austria)
  • Household energy (Skane, Sweden)
  • Food and waste (INTEGRA, Slovenia)
  • Shopping (CARDET, Cyprus)
  • Promoting Climate Literacy (DMSZS, Hungary)

Each partner was responsible for the development of one specific module and now, nearly one year later, we can proudly present the eight finished modules. A first round of pilot testing by both teachers and citizens already yielded many positive reactions and valuable feedback, which were discussed at the project meeting in Paris in early May 2017. Among other things, we decided to add an Index to the website, to allow users to find specific information more easily, and to simplify the navigation between modules and units.

The finalized, English version of all modules is already freely available here. By the start of September, they will also be available in all eight partner languages.

Introductory quizzes

The self-study modules we developed contain a lot of information, which can be intimidating for some users. Therefore, to make the modules more accessible, we developed an introductory quiz for each of the modules that allows the user to check their level of climate change, and just how climate-friendly their lifestyle already is. Every question provides the user with feedback: what positive actions are they already taking, and what more can they do? This way, the user is encouraged to not only adapt their behaviour, but also to get to know more about climate change - through the modules, of course!

Are you a climate hero or a climate villain? Take the test on the website or download the app via Google Play, and find out what more you can do to help the climate!

Teaching resources

The self-study modules are the ideal tool for teachers to prepare the subject of climate change in their teaching. To further support them in this endeavour, additional exercises were developed for each of the modules. The result is a collection of 64 exercises that can be used to introduced the topic of climate change in the classroom. The collection includes experiments that are appropriate for use in biology, natural sciences, … but also contains exercises, crosswords, … that can be used by language or social science teachers.

The Teaching resources are already freely available here. By the start of September, they will also be available in all eight partner languages.

What does the future hold?

In June 2017 the focus is on the translation of both the modules and the teaching resources. By September 2017 these will be officially launched through a number of multiplier events that will be organized by each of the partners. These events will support teachers and VET providers in getting the most out of the Climate Literacy materials. Would you like to participate in an event near you, do not hesitate to contact your local partner:
